Uhuui is the brain child of Nikole Batista, a freelance textile designer and graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
The story of uhuui goes something like this:
One day my four year-old cousin, Sarah, gave me some of her drawings. I was so infatuated with their simple charm, and so touched by her generosity that I didn't know what to do with them.
"Should I hang them up?"
"Where would I put it?"
I felt awkward thinking about framing them, and equally repulsed by the idea of just tossing them.
On a whim I decided to scan them into my computer and turn them into a repeating pattern for fabric. The idea quickly developed into wanting to give Sarah something back in return as a way to show her I valued her creativity.
And to stop there just wasn't enough...
uhuui was created out of the desire to capture the character and vitality of children's drawings in original textile designs.
